Endorsement on letter from
Major Henry Bryan, Asst. Inspt. Genl. dated Tallahassee, Fla. April
4th 1863, giving information on means for rail road construction with
Florida, &c. |
"Respectfully referred to
the Secretary of War. The proposed railroad connection cannot be
completed before the growing crops of oats, wheat and corn are made
and harvested. The surplus produced in Southern and Southwestern
Georgia, with a medium yield, will be more than the rail roads to
Savannah and Macon can transport. The connection, therefore, cannot be
of advantage in supplying troops. A connection ought to be made,
however, for the purpose of getting rail road iron for the main lines
from roads in Florida not now of general importance, this should be
the shortest connection say from Monticello, Fla. to a point near
Thomasville, Geo." |
