| Your letter of April 28th was recd. about
the time the mail communication with the South was interrupted, or it
would have been answered earlier. |
| I have made a requisition in your favor
for $50,000 for the purchase of iron, steel &c. The supply of iron
& steel in this vicinity is so limited & the difficulties of
transportation so great that it will be impossible to send any from
here. You will therefore procure an indispensable supply on the best
terms possible. |
