Sir, |
Your letter of the 30th ulto. to Colonel
W. M. Wadley Asst. Adjt. Genl. in reference to the seizure of 500 tons
of old iron belonging to your Company, was referred by him to the Sec.
of War the 11th inst. with a recommendation that 500 tons of rails be
furnished to the Georgia R. Road at the earliest possible day. At the
request of this Bureau the Navy Department enquired of Mr. J. G. Minor
Agent at Atlanta as to the disposition made of your iron and in reply
the following telegram has just been received. |
"Atlanta, Geo. 18th May 1863 |
The Georgia Rail Road iron was rolled into
plates in January and February and sent to Charleston & Savannah.
I expect to give them some Brunswick. |
J. G. Minor" |
You will therefore please apply to Mr.
Minor for the Brunswick {& Florida --
probably} Rail Road iron he expects to give your road in
return for the iron seized. The amount given it is hoped will be
sufficient to meet your pressing wants. |
Very Respectfully Your obt. Servt. |
