| I am instructed by the Hon Secy of War, to
take measures to have defensive works thrown up without delay for the
protection of the bridges over the Appomattox & Stanton Rivers, on
the Richmond & Danville R. R. & of the high bridge over the
Appomattox River on the South Side R. R. If Capt. R. H. Fitzhugh can
be spared, please order him to report to me for further instruction in
connection with the proposed works. It is important that it should be
done promptly. |
