Yours of the 15th inst. is received. |
I have already acknowledged the receipt of
your accounts for 1st quarter 1864. |
In regard to the transfer of the$50,000 to
Maj. Nocquet, I think your best plan will be to obtain from the
Depository a certificate that the money has not been drawn, then, notify
him that he is not to pay it on the draft given to Major N., obtain from
him acknowledgement of that notice & inclose the whole to the Bureau
with a letter explaining why this course was pursued. If this does not
modify the views of the Hon. Secretary of the Treasury it will be
sufficient for the passage of a bill for your relief by Congress. |
