Colonel, |
Mr A. L. Maxwell, in a letter of 2d inst
to this Bureau, states that he loaned one of his bridge foremen (B. F.
Price) and two of his best workmen (Thos Laery & S R Hamilton) to the
Engr Dept at Charleston about the middle of January last with the
understanding that they were to be returned in a few days, that he
ordered the foreman to return with the men in February and addressed a
letter to you stating that it was important that the men should be
promptly retd, that he has recd no answer to the same effort probably
miscarried, and that he cannot proceed with the work on the Tombigbee
River bridge until the men are sent back. |
Mr Maxwell has important contracts to
fulfill for Government in Northern Georgia and in the construction of
the Tombigbee River bridge, & I earnestly recommend that the men to whom
he refers, may be returned to him, as it is of great importance that the
work with which he is charged should be completed as early as possible. |
