Captain, |
Maj. Presstman Actg Chf Engr A of Tenn
informs me that the Comd'g General desires that all the principal
bridges on the W & A R. R. {Western &
Atlantic RR} between Atlanta & Chattanooga
should be duplicated. The Supt of the Road informed Major Presstman
that Maxwell & Co had duplicates of some of the bridges, &
that you had duplicates of one or two of the smaller bridges. |
Maj Presstman further suggests that it is
of the greatest importance that Maxwell & Co should be employed as
contractors, as they have great facilities for bridge construction. |
I have replied to him that Maxwell &
Co are already largely occupied with Govt. work, and may not be able
to enter into other contracts at present but that I would request you
to take steps to have the bridges duplicated as soon as possible. You
will please communicate with Major Presstmean on the subject &
contract for the duplication of such bridges as you may deem of
importance with Messr Maxwell & Co or other responsible parties,
drawing on the Engineer Bureau for the necessary funds. |
Respy Yours |
