Endorsement on letter of Lt. D. Whitcomb dated
Richmond Apl 2d 1863 stating that two of the hands belonging to the
Va. Central RRd had been impressed to work on fortification; asks for
their release. |
"Respy referred to Col. W. H. Stevens
Corps of Engineers, with the recommendation that the two free negroes
-- Henry & Bras Poindexter be released from the fortifications
& sent back to the Central RRd of Va. This road is essential to
the supply of our main Army at Fredericksburg & it is represented
as a necessity that the force now employed by it should not be taken
away for other purposes." |
