You are hereby requested to collect &
preserve all scrap iron, both cast & wrought, broken bridge
castings, fragments of cannon and the like, belonging to the
Government, that may be found within your Department, & which
cannot be rendered useful in works under your charge. When such iron
is ready for shipment, you will mark each lot distinctly & consign
it to the most convenient of the Agents whose names are given below.
At the same time, you will send a bill of lading to the consignee
& give notice of the same to this Bureau. |
Should you meet with quantities of such
iron that can be purchased of others, you are requested to communicate
the fact to Major J. M. St. John Chief of the Nitre & Mining
Bureau Richmond Va. |
