An Engine of 4 ft 8" gauge is greatly
needed for the track laying of the Piedmont RR in consequence of
which, I now make an earnest request, that one be turned over to Capt.
E. T. D. Myers Chief Engr of the road, with as little delay as
possible. The great necessity for this course arises from the fact
that the N. C. Legislature has granted a charter only for the narrow
gauge road, while the track of the Richmond & Danville RR Co
charged with its construction, is of 5 feet gauge; they can therefore
furnish no engine, & yet, the heavy grade of the Piedmont road
require for the rapid & economical laying of the track, but la??
commenced, an engine of about 25 tons weight. |
Very respectfully &c |
