You are hereby requested to collect and
preserve all scrap iron, both cast and wrought, broken bridge casting,
fragments of cannon and the like, belonging to the Government, that may
be found within your department, and which cannot be rendered useful in
works under your charge. When such iron is ready for shipment, you will
mark each lot distinctly, and consign it to the most convenient of the
agents, whose names are given below. At the same time you will send a
bill of lading to the consignee, and give notice of the same to this
Bureau. |
Should you meet with quantities of such
iron, that can be purchased of others, you are requested to communicate
the fact to Major I. M. St John, Chief of the Nitre & Mining Bureau,
Richmond, Va. |
