Sir, |
Your letter of the 4th inst to the Hon
Secy of War in reference to the taking of iron from the Seaboard {&
Roanoke} RR
has been referred to this Bureau, & I have written a letter of
inquiry to Genl Longstreet Commanding Dept of Eastern Va & N. C.
asking to be informed, if any part of the iron from the above named
road can be removed, without interfering with the operations of his
command. If any part of the iron can be taken, the question of its
removal will be at once investigated. You mention that Capt. Myers has
commenced laying track on the Piedmont Road. Will you please to inform
me if the NC Legislature has granted a modification of the charter, so
as to allow the desired change of gauge. |
Is the track laid 4' 81/2 inches or 5 feet
gauge. |
I am Sir &c |
