I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of this
day, stating that Lieut. Col. Stevens has requested you to prepare
immediately a list of counties, on which to make an additional call
for 3000 slaves, and inquiring whether the counties (except Henrico)
mentioned in the third requisition, have been called upon, and whether
any of them have been exempted.

Many of the quotas however have been
reduced, and the hands from Amelia and Danville are to be detached to
Capt. Myers to work on the Piedmont Rail Road. |

which have furnished labor to take up the track on the {Richmond
&} York River Rail
Road in lieu of the work on the defences. The counties of Patrick and
Henry have furnished 272 to Capt. Myers. *** |
