General, |
Your letter of 21st. inst. to Major A. L.
Rives, Engineer, has been laid before me, and in response, I have to
ask you to favor me with information as to the parts of the Norfolk
& Petersburg and Seaboard & Roanoke Rail Roads from which you
can obtain iron if this Bureau furnish the hands. Can the iron in
either case be taken from points beyond the Blackwater; and if so, how
can it be brought across that river? |
I will thank you for an answer as your
earliest convenience. P. S. can the iron be taken from either road on
this side of the Blackwater, without interfering with your military
operations? |
Very Respectfully |
Your Obt.Servt. |
