Endorsement on letter of Capt. Richard Morton to
Maj. J. M. St. John, Richmond, February 19th 1863, requesting that
protection be given the working parties to rebuild the bridge on the
Paumnkey river, to consist of one battery of light guns & 250 mounted
sharpshooters. |
"Respectfully referred to Maj. Genl.
Arnold Elzey, commanding, with the request that the military force named
by Capt. Morton, (the inspector under the contract) be furnished. The
agreement with Mr Dudley President of the
{Richmond &} York River R. Road, is for the removal of iron of
great importance for defensive purposes, & the operation requires the
protection asked." |
