|
Colonel, |
It is desired that the York river {Richmond
& York River RR} railroad bridge across the Pauminkey,
injured last season by the enemy, be repaired as soon as practicable,
to procure the iron, on the track beyond, for the Danville R. Rd.
extension {the Piedmont RR} and for gunboats. I understand that Capt. J. J. Clarke is
fully acquainted with the road and the resources of the adjacent
country, having been engaged as an Engineer on its original
construction; and as his labors, at present, are probably less onerous
than heretofore, you will please assign to him the charge of
repairing the bridge, if not incompatible with the proper discharge of
his present duties. |
Very Respectfully Yours |
J. F. Gilmer |
Colonel, & Chief of Engr. Bureau |
