Winder dated Nov 5th asking the military status of Col. C. F. M.
Garnett. |
Engr Bureau Nov 7 1863. Respy returned to
Genl J. H. Winder. Col. Garnett has no military status: he is only
Colonel by courtesy. He is, however, the regularly appointed
commissioner for the removal of railroad iron from roads to be
deposited for the benefit of the Govt. He was appointed by the Hon.
Secretaries of War and the Navy and has authority in the duties
pertaining to his position. |
