Maj Clark's telegram, by your direction,
received. Genl S. Jones has given orders to his engineers and engineer
companies to undertake promptly the reconstruction of the trestle
bridge ten miles west of Bristol {on the East
Tennessee & Virginia RR}, but states that in so doing, only
nine miles additional railroad will be made available, as the bridge
over the Holston and a short distanced thereafter, the bridge over the
Watauga, both heavy works are both destroyed. Under these
circumstances, is it important that the trestle work ten miles from
Bristol, be promptly repaired? |
