Colonel, |
I have just received a letter from Major
C. S. Venable ADC of Genl R. E. Lee stating that Col B. F. Johnson has
reported that the defences of the railroad bridges over the North and
South Anna should be enlarged and improved, and that Genl Lee desires,
in consequence, that an engineer officer be ordered to Hanover
Junction to examine the various positions along with Col Johnson and
superintend the construction of the required defences. I respectfully
request you to select an officer of experience and capacity for this
serviced and to order him to proceed without delay to Hanover Junction
{on the Virginia Central RR}, as desired by General Lee. |
Yours Very Respectfully |
