Endorsement on telegram from Gen. J. E.
Johnston to Hon. Sec of War dated Meridian Oct 9th, stating that for
the "object mentioned" {probably the
rebuilding of the Pearl River bridge in order to save the rolling
stock and iron in northern Mississippi} it will also be necessary to relay
nine or ten miles of railroad, and, that he will give all assistance
and protection in his power, but his force is small. Which was
referred by the Hon. Sec of War to this Bureau, "for
information." |
