Sir, |
Gov. Morehead's claim for R. R. iron
mentioned in your inventory as having been used for defensive purposes &
for building a track at Fort Macon has been submitted to the Secretary
of War, who wishes information on the following heads: |
Was the iron in whole or in part seized &
used by the people of the vicinity on the spur of the moment, or by
direction of the authorities of the State of North Carolina? What were
the dates of the seizures in both instances? What the market price of
good rail road iron per ton at Beaufort at the time? |
By replying promptly to the above
inquiries you will enable this Bureau to adjust Gov. Morehead's claim at
an early date & greatly oblige. |
Yours most respectfully |
