Dear Sir, |
Your letter of the 24th inst. together
with the reports of yourself and the Chief Engineer of your company,
have been received. A careful perusal of these papers while showing
fully the difficulties under which your company has labored from the commencement,
fail to give in a succinct manner the information called for by the
Resolution of Congress. Colonel Gilmer desires me therefore to
respectfully request that you will call upon your Chief Engineer for
an approximate statement, partial or full, on the following heads. |
How |
many |
miles |
are graded? |
" |
" |
" |
nearly " ? |
" |

commenced? |
" |
" |

untouched? |
|
What bridge structures completed -- if none -- are
materials collected? When is it proposed to commence laying iron? When
is it hoped that a portion of the road can be opened & for what
distance? A profile showing progress of the work would be acceptable,
but if productive of too much trouble or delay, then simple statement
of the total cubic yards of excavation done and remaining to be done
would answer. |
Very Respectfully Yours |
