Endorsement on letter of Mr. P. V. Daniel --
Prest. R. F. & P. R. Rd. Co. {Richmond,
Fredericksburg & Potomac RR} dated Richmond, January 26th '63
to the Hon. Sec. of War. Enclosing resolutions of the directors, and a
letter from Capt. J. M. Robinson, C. S. A. Making propositions to send
a gentleman, whom they will select for Europe to purchase absolute
necessities for the road. |
"I have respectfully to state that
the service for which Captain Robinson is wanted is so important to
the success of our cause that he ought to be detailed for the duty.
With General Jones are three other Engineer officers -- one captain
and two Lieutenants who can, in my opinion, direct all the Engineer
operations of Genl Jones Dept. I would suggest too that Capt. Robinson
be instructed to procure and ship many articles of first importance
for the Govt. when in Europe -- if the necessary financial
arrangements can be made. Several things are wanted for Engineer
Service, which he can select to advantage. Respectfully returned
to the Hon. Sec. of War." |
