Upon the representations of the Qr. Mr.
Genl of the need for shoe makers in the Govt shops at Augusta Maj Gen
Gilmer directs that you detail to Major Bridewell, Qr. Mr. at that place
any negro mechanics of that class who may be turned over to you by the
Enrolling officers, among those impressed for 12 mo.s service under P.
O. 86 A&IGO series/64 or until a sufficient number is attained to keep
his shops in full operation. |
Genl Gilmer directs me to say that you
should be careful to organize all these negroes into Gangs of 100 each
as provided by the order, keeping full & accurate Rolls & strict account
of all those who are detailed for duty outside of the Engineer
Department. |
