NA, DT 10/2/1863

Head Quarters District of Texas &c.
Sabine Pass, October 2nd 1863

Captain H. B. Lee
Qr. Mr.

Sir,
   I am instructed by Major Genl Magruder to say that you will personally inspect every car which leaves Beaumont for Houston {Texas & New Orleans RR} and that you will not allow one pound of freight to go on the cars, which is not plainly public property, until the timber destined for Houston to be issued in making the connection between the Orange and {Houston & Texas} Central R. Road, is transported to its destination. Capt. H. B. Lee will personally superintend this matter, and be held strictly accountable for its performance.
   Lieut. Woods will superintend the shipment of this lumber.
By Command of
Major Genl Magruder
Ed P. Turner
A. A. G.
{This order makes no sense. Orange was about 25 miles East of Beaumont and about 110 miles East of Houston. The Houston & Texas Central RR connected to Orange by way of the Texas & New Orleans RR through Houston.}
