Sir, |
I am instructed by Major Genl
Magruder Comdg to call your attention to the matter of entrenching tools
and other implements belonging to the Engineer Department, and borrowed
by you for Railroad uses etc. |
As it is presumed that the
emergency, under which they were obtained, has now passed, the General
desires that these tools &c be collected and returned to this depot,
with as little delay as possible. |
I enclose herewith a list of
the articles supposing that you may not have it at hand. I am also
instructed by Genl. Magruder to say that Engineer tools at this depot
are intended solely for the construction of fortifications and cannot be
issued to Railroads for repairs &c, unless under great emergency, in
which case the Engineer Insptr of Roads will make the necessary
requisitions and receipts, the property in all cases to be returned as
soon as practicable. |
The implements borrowed by you
from the Quarter Master at Liberty were intended for construction of
defenses at that place and are to be immediately returned to him. |
I am further instructed by
Genl Magruder to enquire of you what progress has been made in
strengthening the bridge at Liberty, and to protect it from drift. |
I am, Col. |
Very Respt Your Obt Svt |
