Yours of the 5th inst enclosing estimates of the cost labor
&c for connecting the Rail Road near Beaumont
{connecting the Eastern Texas RR to the Texas & New Orleans RR}
here received the attention of the Major Gen Comdg, and in reply I am by
him directed to state that your plan meets his approval as also the
estimate of cost, labor &c. |

Col Debray has been directed to detail a guard sufficient
to protect the working party, also to detail from 75 to 100 soldiers to
report to you to perform such work as may be required of them which
labor must be deducted from the sum total of the estimate. |
|
You will confer with Col Debray in regard to the
transportation of the ties to the Rail Road. If it cannot be furnished
you by the Qr Master of this District, you must make a necessary
contract for procuring it yourself. |
