| I should be very glad to hear
further from you on the subject of the contemplated connection between
the C&S {Charleston & Savannah RR} and So
Ca RRoads. I cannot learn that anything is being done to accomplish this
important object. The authorities of C&S Rail Road Company do not I
think understand the basis upon which the Govt & Council agree to
advance the money they seem to consider it merely as an offer to loan
the amt to the Company for the purpose stated. I understand it to be an
advance by the state to meet a military necessity with the expectation
of ultimate reimbursement by the Confederate Government. If I can assist
in any way in this work I beg that you will inform me. |
