| Under an agreement between the
War & Navy Departments, I am authorized to communicate with you
concerning certain Rail road iron under your control, to the end that
enough of it may be turned over to the Charleston & Savannah R Road, to
lay a track or tracks across the Ashby River into this city, deemed
necessary for Military purposes. |
| A copy of a letter, herewith,
from the President of the R Road in question offers an exchange which
appears advantageous. I also enclose a copy of Mr Secretary Randolph's
telegram. |
| The President of the Savannah
& Charleston R Road will be instructed to communicate with you on the
subject. |
