Sir, |
I am in receipt of your letter of the 7th inst. setting
forth that a portion of the iron on the Statesville Road
{Atlantic, Tennessee & Ohio RR} will be
required for the repairs of your road during the coming year & asking
that a part of this iron next to Charlotte be not removed. It is not
designed to remove more iron from the Statesville Road than is required
to make the urgent necessary repair on the
{Richmond &} Danville Road. The support of Genl. Lee's Army
depends upon this road in a great degree & nothing can be allowed to
delay the execution of the work. I will instruct the Govt. agents to
take only what is necessary, but this will probably require the greater
part of the iron on the Statesville Road. |
Very Respy |
