{Endorsement on:} Savannah May 11th 1864  Lieut Col. Minor Meriwether Relative to the removal of Rail Road iron in Florida.
Respy returned to Lt. Col. Meriwether Corps of Engineers. A portion of the iron from the Florida Rail Road is required for establishing R. R. connections and relaying in part existing tracks, absolutely essential to the military transportation of the Confederacy. The collection of this iron has become a military necessity. You will therefore as the representative of the commission for collecting & distributing iron, proceed without delay to collect the iron from the two extremities of the Florida Road to supply the wants of the Government. One of the vital connections is that between the Florida & Georgia Roads now constructing under your direction. You will apply to Maj Gen Anderson, commanding Dist of Florida, for all neessary assistance, viz labor, transportation & military protection. If necessary apply to Gen. Anderson to impress the negroes and Rail Road engines required for aid. {end of document in ledger; obviously signed by Maj. Gen. Gilmer}
