I am directed by the Maj. Genl. Commandg
to inform you, that you are authorized to proceed in person, or to send
a reliable agent beyond the Tunnel on the Nashville & Chattanooga
Railroad, & to take up enough R. Road iron to complete the Knoxville &
Kentucky R. Road, from Knoxville to Clinton. |
You will keep an accurate account of the
quantity of iron thus received, (for which you must account to that
corporation) and will adopt all measures requisite to the immediate
completion of the R. Road from this place to Clinton. |
At Chattanooga, Brig. Gen. Maxey will
furnish such aid as is consistent with the public interest, & which he
may deem necessary to carry out these instructions. |
