The Major Genl. Commandg directs, that you
proceed without delay to Stevenson, Ala. & make arrangements with the
Presidents & Superintendents of Rail-road Companies, for the transfer to
the East Tenn. Railroads, of such rolling stock, as may be requisite,
for the transportation of troops & government stores, in this Military
Department. |
If you find any rolling stock between
Stevenson & Chattanooga, that is not in immediate use, you will agree
with the authorized officer or agent of the company to which it belongs,
for its speedy transfer to Chattanooga. If such agreement cannot be
made, you will take possession of it, for the purpose indicated herein. |
In the event you find yourself unable from
any cause to obtain necessary means of transportation between
Chattanooga & Stevenson, you will then proceed to Genl. A. S. Johnston's
Head Quarters, and represent to him the necessity, that the Rail-roads
in this Department, should receive without delay, increased means for
Government transportation, and request his aid in effecting it. |
As soon as you shall have complied with
the orders herein given, and attained as far as you may be able, the
objects of your mission, you will return & resume your duties. |
