| It is reported as these Hd Qrs that the
troops on the south side of Clinch river & near Clinton, have burnt
three thousand crossties of the Knoxville & Ky Rail-road, & are now
burning them. |
| The Major Genl. Commanding directs me to
call your attention to this complaint, & orders, that such depredations
upon private property, shall immediately cease. |
| Officers who are cognizant of such
depredations, & who permit them, will be required to pay the value of
the property destroyed. |
