left Holly Springs evening 23rd, passed through Byhalia yesterday
evening 900 strong going towards Germantown. No wagons or artillery. Col
Duckworth says scouts report 8 regiments to crossing Cold Water at
Quinns Mill, also two boatloads at Commerce, thinks they intend raid on
Miss & Tenn RR. |
| Capt. Whitney, at Demopolis
says, all cars there are under orders from you to carry troops to Selma,
and can't start rations for Montevallo {Alabama &
Mississippi Rivers RR} until Friday, unless orders are
countermanded. |
