| Lt Col Meriwether, Engr, is
directed to rebuild in the shortest possible time the Rail road bridge
over the Cahaba river {which bridge and which
railroad is not known}. He will at once have a reconnaissance of
the work made by a competent officer: -- will place his entire carpenter
force on the same, and apply to Dept Hd Qr for such other assistance as
may be required to push the work to rapid completion. He will also keep
in communication with the officer comdg troops in front of said work,
with the view of receiving the earliest information of any advance of
the enemy. |
