I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your
communication of the 16th inst. Lieut Col Meriwether has been already
directed to put the Rail Road alluded to in repair as soon as possible,
but any assistance that you can provide him in the prosecution of his
orders will be greatly to the interest of the service. |

The Lieut General Comdg desires that you will recommend to
the proprietors of the Iron Works about Montevallo to go to work
repairing and rebuilding their establishments. |
