The Lieut Genl Comdg wishes you to make some immediate
arrangements for shipping the men who are en route for their command. He
thinks probably the best plan will be to send them to Gainesville thence
by river to Montgomery. The men belonging in Mobile might stop at
Demopolis and be sent from there by first boat to Mobile, the larger
portion of these men are to go to Augusta to report to Lieut Genl Lee at
that point. |

The great reason for immediate action in this matter is
that these men are running back to their homes from this place, and it
is found impossible to prevent them. Please let me have your views and
do what is best to secure the Genl's end in this nesserence(?). |
