Having said in your letter to me on that
subject, that you desired me to indicate the person who I wished to
act as my Chief Q Master, I respectfully offer the name of Major
Thomas Peters and ask that he may be assigned to me. That officer
has been with me from the beginning of the war and has served the
Government under me, with great intelligence & fidelity. He was
placed upon the duty he is now upon by me, while at Chattanooga, at
my own instance, because of the difficulty of supplying the army
with which I was then serving. It was understood to be temporary and
I feel that I have a claim upon his services. |
Besides I have to offer the name of
Major George Whitfield now & for sometime past acting as
transportation (RR) Qr Mr, as an officer, in every particular well
qualified for the duty now being performed by Major Peters. For the
qualifications of Major Whitfield you are referred to the officer
who I have has a ground supervision of the work Peters is now doing
-- Col. Sam Tate. |
