Lieut, |
I beg leave to report through you to Lt
Col Conncill that I have thoroughly investigated the Rail Road {Charleston
& Savannah} from Rant?ho creek to one mile below John's
Island Ferry in reference to the complaint made by J. H. Buckhalter
Master of Road way, that I find no cutting or other depredation of a
recent date, none since I have been in command of the Post except in
one place below the Ferry Road and two of my men (Sergt Roane and
private Evans) who were on guard at the time inform me that it was
done by some of the men belonging to the Road, that they heard the
cars stop, heard the cutting, and saw the light, evidently repairing
something that had given away. The other cutting complained of is
very slight and I think the Road has sustained no serious injury. If
the cars do not run off from other causes such as rotten, wornout or
broken ties, they will certainly not do so from cutting or other
depredations committed by the Pickets stationed at John's Island
Ferry Road. I will adopt such measures as will prevent any
depredation by the Pickets at this Post. |
