I have the honor to make the following
report of my inspection of the Dept of Capt Thos R Sharp
Transportation Qr master here. |
Capt Sharp was commissioned Octr 15 1861,
but assigned to this duty Aug 18 1864 by enclosed letter of the Qr
master Genl. The duties of Transportation Qr master at this post, and
under the enclosed orders are to take charge of all transportation at
this point & Charlotte Junction under the direction of Maj Roland
Rhett Qr master, and of all transportation on the line of the
Greenville & Columbia RR & Charlotte & So Carolina RR
under the direction of Lt Col Sims Chf RR Bureau. |
Capt Sharp is also engaged in the
construction of a ware house 300 ft long & 30 wide at the
Charlotte Junction by order of Maj Rhett & Carrington for the
storage of corn & commissary stores. Capt Sharp has only two
detailed men and these (see enclosed details {not
found}) are detailed for light duty. |
The papers, books & c of Capt Sharp
are better kept than any I have ever seen and certainly stamp him as
an accomplished business man. he cash a/c was perfectly correct and I
carefully examined each voucher. Capt S has very little Govt
property in his hand, as a Transportation Qr master. |
Capt Sharp is engaged in no business but
as Qr master, and the hours of his office are such as comply with your
wishes namely all day. I found Capt S. polite and inviting the closest
inspection. |
Very Respectfully Genl |
