This contract entered into between
Pinkston Nail of Chester S. C. and Captain Jno H Sturt aqm CSA hereby
witnesseth, that the said Pinkston Nail consents and agrees to repair,
for account of the Confederate States a warehouse at Chester S C
belonging to the Charlotte & SC RRoad Co, by repairing the
uprights supporting the warehouse making them firm and substantial, by
laying three rows of upright blocks of wood length wise the building
viz one on each side and one down the center at not over eight feet a
part, resting upon the ground and capable of holding substantially and
upon which he is to place the sills, upon the sills the sleepers, and
upon the sleepers the floor; he is to weather board up all that part
of the building requiring it, and to secure well any of the old
weather boarding that may be loose; he is to cut make and hang upon
substantial hinges, with fastings of good stron brass two large doors,
one seven feet high and feet ten wide and one seven feet high and feet
seven high; he is to partition off in the south end of the Building a
small room in which he is to cut make and hang upon good hinges, one
small door fasting outside of the house, and to cut and make a small
door in the partition, leading from the small room to the wareroom, he
is to build a good strong platform leading from the front door of the
Building to the Rail Road track, and to put the whole building in a
good condition and repair for the storage of Grain |
And he further agrees to build a good
substantial Crossing Bridge for wagons, over the Charleston & SC
and Kings Mountain Rail Road tracks, on a level with the tracks, not
to interfere with the running of the Engines and the Cars, the Bridges
to be eighteen feet wide; all of this work, both warehouse and Bridges
he promises to do in a good workman like manner, subject to the
inspection of competent judges; and he does further covenant and agree
to have all this work finished, the House for the storage of Grain and
the bridges for the safe crossing of wagons, in twenty five days from
this date |
Capt. Jno H Sturt aqm CSA on the part of
the Confederate States, covenants and agrees to furnish all the
Blocks, Sills, Sleepers, flooring, weather boarding and fastings and
all other material necessary to repair the said warehouse and build
the said crossing bridges; and he further covenants and agrees to pay
the said Pinkston Nail Two hundred and fifty dollars for doing the
whole work, to be paid after the work is completed |
