C. G. Memminger, Secretary of the Treasury |

I have the honor to state that I am in
receipt of a communication from the Treasurer of the Clinton &
Port Hudson R. R. stating, that the Government, which has had almost
exclusive use of the road since August last year, has never audited or
settled the accounts -- that for the continuance of the road in
operation it is necessary that this be promptly done, as the Co has
made large contracts for material for needful repairs, the payments
for which it is unable to meet without a settlement by the Government.
I therefore request that Maj. Mims Chf Quartermaster this Dept be
allowed to audit its accounts -- Col Wadley not being in this
Department. |
