Dear Sir, |
On my return from Sabine Pass I received
your order to procure negroes etc. for the purpose of finishing Rail
Road from Alleyton to Columbus {Columbus Tap RR},
& am pleased to say that I have never seen a public enterprise
more promptly responded to, with the lights before me, will have no difficulty
in procuring in a very few days the number of negroes required (100)
without impressing one. We have already a number on the road &
others coming in, waggons are hauling ties. We have plenty tools,
& the Road will in a few weeks, be in running order. |
Capt Heriot was up & I presume will
report to you in person. |
Very Respectfully |
E. P. Whitfield |
