Dear Sir, |
I have taken the liberty of addressing a
line to you, to ask your assistance, on procuring a situation in your
Department. I make the application to you direct, preferring to stand on
my own merits, rather than to ask the aid of a third party. If you
desire the names of any of whom you may enquire as to my capability to
discharge any trust you may place in my hands, I would refer you to Col
Sam Tate of Memphis, Col Sam Cruse of Huntsville, Hon Charles T. Jenkins
of Augusta, Ga. or Mr. E. P. Clayton of Augusta. Mr. C. is a brother of
Mr Phillip Clayton, who is now on his way to Montgomery, I have not
asked, either of the above gentlemen for the use of their names, and if
you should think it necessary to make enquiries of them, you will please
word your enquiries "accordingly." I am at present engaged as Supt of
the Augusta & Savannah RR. But the duties of my office are so confining
& parassing, that both my health & inclination induces me to make this
application with the hope of procuring a situation better suited to my
health & ???. An early reply will much oblige. |
Your Respectfully |
W. C. Jones |
