Maj Dameron offers the Supt
40c 50c 55c & 60c for the 26 HHds of Sugar seized by him according to
classification, and then advises the Company to purchase of another man
at Brandon 140 miles from home at 1.30c {should be
$1.30). Every effort has been made to get Maj Dameron to
deliver(?) this Sugar, without success. I insist that the seizure is
without warrant per Law, and in direct violation of Genl Coopers last
order, on that subject received from Richmond Nov 6/63, a copy of which
I enclose. Will you do the Co the favor to interpose & have the Sugar be
delivered, and prevent violation of Law & order by subordinate officials
& thereby promote the good of the service, and to that extent aid in
preserving the trusting of the people. |
Yours Truly |
