Dr Sir,
I am informed by Mr J W Morris Agent of this Road at Meridian that you have seized a lot of Sugar consigned to us.
Permit me to inform you that the Sugar belongs to the Ala & Miss Rivers R. R. Co. and was purchased for purpose of exchange for meat, clothing, leather and general supplies for the Road.
The President and military officers have urgently requested the company to extend the Road from this point to McDowell, and to build a Bridge over the Tombigbee River. With this request the Co. are desirous to comply. A large force of Laborers & Mechanics is required to maintain and operate the Road now in use.
Most of the transportation over the Road is for the government and you are aware of its great importance to army movements, the fate of Mississippi may depend upon its successful operation. If disaster should befall Mobile, -----. I trust the assurance I hereby give to you that the Sugar is the properties of this company and that it will be used solely for the purposes above stated and not for speculation will be sufficiently to induce you to release it without further delay and deliver it to Mr Morris. Will you please advise me by telegraph & by letter of your decision in the business.
Yours Very Respectfully
M B Pritchard
