Genl Jos E. Johnston |

General, |
At the request of Mr Bocock,
Prest of this Road. I beg leave to submit to you the accompanying
estimates & statements relative to the completion of this Road to
McDowells, and to the construction of a Bridge over the Tombigbee River.
In all our efforts to procure labor & supplies ??n for the maintenance
and repairs of the Road now in operation. We are thrown in competition
with Government officials and of course are powerless. A general order
from you forbidding such interference would be used by the Co with
discretion and only for the purpose of maintaining and constructing the
Road. I sent you a dispatch this morning relative to the seizure of a
lot of Sugar belonging to the Road. I trust you will order it released
as it is our main dependence for procuring necessary supplies for the
large force of men we are obliged to employ. |
Very Respectfully Yours |
