I have understood that at many
of the way stations along our RRoads a considerable quantity of potatoes
have been collected, packed in bags and stored, awaiting transportation.
This information may possibly be erroneous, but if such is the fact, I
suggest that it would be well that they be stored in some different
manner by which they might be protected from the frost. Considerable of
those sent to the army are frosted & unfit for issue, thereby creating a
loss. We have no means of protecting them against frost as weather may
now be considered severe. I suggest that the supply of this article be
preserved for issue in the spring or else have them issued now to the
local troops giving this army the meat thus saved. |
