| Major, |
| I beg to write you, that the Stores from
Mobile, shipped to General Johnston, came very promptly to hand, but
owing to the state of confusion here, & the undecided action of officers
at the ??? about putting up the guns, which is all unavoidable, it has
been impossible to return receipts promptly & as they were not shipped
to me, & it was decided best to keep them on the cars, to move to the
River if necessary, nothing could be done with them. |
| You know what it is to load & unload such
stores & I had orders to remove at once all the Arsenal & of
course could not attend to the guns &c. |
| Today however orders have been definitely
given, & I am having the cars unloaded & will have the matter attended
to at once. |
| The officer in charge deserves much credit
for pushing the stores through so promptly. |
| Very Respy |
